Entries for the 2018 trial have now closed, and we're making final preparations for the trial on Saturday. We look forward to seeing everyone who has entered for a challenging and hopefully dry trial. Final Instructions etc. will be emailed to all entrants in the next couple of days.
If you were wondering how long is left to wait to the nearest second, here is a countdown to the start of the trial:
Due to new insurance regulations, we now have to accept final entries for cars on Saturday the 10th of February. Any entries received after then, we cannot accept. So please get your entries in now!
If you know anyone who intends to enter, and hasn't already, please give them a nudge. Last weekend we visited many of our sections in preparation for the trial and below is one of the many fantastic views we are treated to on the Northern. If you want to join us in enjoying these fantastic views and cracking sections, send us your entry now! All regs and entry forms for the 2018 Northern Classic Trial on the 17th of February are now available in the Northern Classic Trial section of the website. The menu for pre-ordering food at The New Stocksman after the trial is also available in the Northern Classic Trial area.
Since the Northern Trial the club has had a fairly quiet time. Our Springtime Treasure Hunt/Run weekend, The Moors Meander was held entirely within the North Yorks National Park and was won by David and Christine Chamberlin. The Autumn Adventure was organised by Chris and Diane Veevers and covered a varied and compact route around west Northumberland and east Cumbria. Attempts at organising Car Trials were thwarted by bad weather (snow blizzards) or lack of entries. Club members have acted as marshals on the two local VSCC events as well as entering the Yorkshire Dales and Durham Dales Trials, as well as the MCC big three.
Preparations are now well under way for the Northern 2018 to be held on 17th February. The core organising team have been joined by a youngster, Peter Dive. Peter enjoys both driving cars and riding motorbikes and has entered the Northern on his bikes. It is very good and useful to have the input and advice from a biker when setting up the trial. We are holding a meeting specifically to discuss the Northern Trial on Wednesday 29th November at 8pm in the Howard Arms in Brampton Following a couple of minor adjustments the final results are now available and can be found in the Northern Classic Trial section.
The Final Instructions etc have been emailed or posted out to all our entrants. If you haven't received yours please contact us on our email address or by phone on the number given in the Supplementary Regulations.
The weather forecast for Saturday isn't too bad, compared to the last few years, and promises cloud with some showers and temperatures upto 9C. Storm Desmond caused us more than a few problems in 2016, several sections were washed out and unusable or blocked by fallen trees. On top of this forestry operations meant we were unable to access several more. Twelve months on and forestry operations have moved on and time has restored some of the damaged sections. We hope to use Big Cockup again for the first time for about eight years.
The start and finish is again at the Stocksman, Wigton. The staff there look forward to our visit even though they have to start at six in the morning. Last year, thanks to our competitors, we raised £250 for the Flood Relief Fund. If you are unable to enter perhaps you would be willing to join our enthusiastic team of marshals, Myke Pocock will be very pleased to hear from you on 01228 530555 or [email protected] . Paperwork can be found in 'Forms'. Last weekend, a selection of the club's members travelled to Dumfries and Galloway, to take part in the club's fourth annual treasure hunt. David and Christine organised the Galloway Gallop, which started at the Hetland Hall Hotel in Carrutherstown, rested overnight in Portpatrick, at the Fernhill Hotel, and finished at The Steamboat Inn, Carsethorn, Dumfries. The route took us along superb winding roads, through forests, and showed off the fantastic Scottish moors. Due to the weather forecast many chose cars with roofs, however a brave handful chose to go in open cars, and the decision paid off thanks to the beautiful weather.
On the Sunday morning we were treated to a tour and tasting session at The Galloway Smokehouse, where we were talked through the full process of smoking fish, butter, and even eggs. A select handful of photos are shown below; to see all photos go to the treasure hunt section. If you were there, and have any photos which we could put on the website, please email them to [email protected] A huge thank you, to David and Christine for organising such an amazing event, and a really fun weekend out in the countryside! First of all, a huge thank you to everybody involved in this year's Northern Classic Trial; whether marshals, organisers, or competitors. We have published our final results, and they can be found under the "Northern Classic Trial" tab. We had trouble organising this year's trial due to all of the flooding, so it is fantastic that so many of you came over to the lakes and helped to assist the repairs. For every competitor we have put £2 towards the flood repairs, plus a donation from the club. We hope you enjoyed this year's trial and look forward to seeing you all next year, for the 2017 Northern Classic Trial! |
