A team of seven ventured into the forests where many of our sections are located. Generally speaking the storm damage wasn't as bad as we had feared. One of our new sections required work to fill in a deep gully in the access track and the removal of a tree across the route. Another section has three large fallen trees across the access track, Forestry Commission have this in hand. We tested a couple of the other sections to check whether to give them restarts or not. It is all systems go for the 20th February.
All the Fell Side members who entered the MCC Exeter Trial were awarded medals. Congratulations to Hal Branson who won Gold and just missed the class award by 0.01 second on the Observed Tests. Coongratulations also to Tony Branson and Derek Reynolds who both won Bronze Awards.
The Clee Hills Trial on the 24th January will see Fell Sider entries from Will & Lucy Lines (Marlin), Tony Branson/Eric Gordon (Marlin), Derek Reynolds/Clive Stephenson (Suzuki X-90). Carol & Fred Mills along with grandson Alexander Jefferson will be marshalling on Strefford Wood 1 (classes 7&8) and Rattlinghope Observed Test (all classes). In the meantime preparations for the Northern Trial are progressing. The second batch of flooding caused one of the bridges we use to be closed indefinitely, so a revised route has been devised. One of the sections we hoped to re-introduce after repair has been completely washed out and another less important section has a tree, the size of a small house, blocking it. However, we will still have fourteen very competitive sections and the new spectacular views from the hilltops. The regs etc for the Trial can be found in the Northern Trial section of our website.
On Sunday 5 members from the club competed and marshalled in Preston And District's annual Strid Wood PCT. Clive navigated/bounced for Derek, and Fred did the same for Tony. Alexander marshalled on one of the sections, and the weather for the event was very reasonable. The sections were astoundingly dry, and for 3 neighbouring fields, presented surprising variety.
Congratulations to the Fell Siders who entered the Edinburgh Trial this year.
Tony Branson/Eric Gordon in their Marlin were awarded Gold, as were Hal and Beth Branson also in a Marlin. Derek Reynolds/Clive Stephenson in the Suzuki X-90 were awarded Silver and Richard Clay on his motorbike combination received a Finisher's Certificate. Well Done to you all. Following advice from ACTC we have changed the date of the 2016 Northern Trial to Saturday 20th February. This gives two weeks recovery time after the Cotswolds Clouds.
The 2nd annual Durham Dales Trial was on Sunday, with lots of new sections, good weather and 13 Fell Side members taking part.
